Manusmriti,a religious book of hindu mythology has regarded woman at superior rank in all races of humans. She is described as the pillar of any prosperous society. The shlok above very well defines the female’s (naari) significance.The place where her presence glistens,the divine also respects that place but the place where she is abhored,that place is declared hell.
Sporadically the news of acid attacks in the morning comes in front of our eyeswith every sip of tea. We show it to our wives,children but are we really bothered? Do we find any amicability with the attack victim? Do we ever try to alleviate the pain of these victims in the society?
NO..We just shun the facts,become the same as the other99% of humans and forget it with the time untill and unless we see the same news on some other day.
Today acid attacks have been reported in many parts of the world. It is around 1500 every year according to ACID SURVIVERS TRUST INTERNATIONAL.Since1990s Bangladesh has been repoting the highest number of attacks with 3512 attacked between 1990 to 2013 .This curse is mostly concentrated in south asia.Alone in pakistan in a year there are 250- 300 attacks,in Columbia around148.
CAUSES OF BRUTAL ATTACKS.
- 80% done due to seepage of patriarchial mindset.it covers all under causes-
- Misogynist culture impregnated into psyche of male( How could she challenge me OR Why cant she be submissive?)
- 15% done due to property dispute.
- Frustration over weaker sex
- 41% from spurned lovers
- Anger over rejection of any action
This attack leads to complete debilitation, loss of income and opportunity,and even social sequestration
Encountering the vedios of such victims, the punishment which should come in court’s mind is not imprisonment for 5- 10 years or fine of 5 lacs but TO BURN HIM ALIVE with the same acid which he used on the girl.He ll then come to know the pain,the grief that the woman has suffered.This may not kill the pain of the woman completely but would alleviate most part of it.
